Allen and Sharie's later life comprised puttering about and perfecting the art of sailing and cruising along the Juan de Fuca Strait, Coast Salish Territory, as well as offshore (with no engines). Within cozy and humble homes upon the water, they were generous with their love, resources, and company. Their artful homes, they made of reclaimed beach wood, hand tools, and little money, sailing spreading views on ecological harmony. Allen hated "the noise and the stink!" of engines on boats, in his high pitched voice. They were known to get nude to ward powerboats, being hippy pacifists from my point of view. They also emanated a love and humanity that was truly healing. I can only hope to create such a healing space. Proceeds help restore the wooden Junk Rig Sailboat depicted in the image. Allen and Sharie, my great great auntie and uncle, built and launched this vessel in 1982. Keep an eye out for China Cloud on the prowl! edengrace.ca/china-cloud
