The White Raven
The White Ravens are local to central Vancouver Island and have been reproducing here for over two decades. These ravens are not albino, as one might think, but called "leucitic". Their eyes are blue, not red. Mike Yip (a local professional bird photographer). suggested they may have genetic defects that dilute their natural colour. The ravens produce several offspring a year... we just don't see them very often.
I have lived in Central Vancouver Island for twenty-four years. I was lucky enough to have a pair of white ravens foraging in my back forest over a summer. I hadn't heard of them at this time and it took me a long time to figure out what they were. I now feel quite fortunate to have been able to watch them for so long.
