Artist notes: Kelp baskets/nest are decorative pieces, rather than functional baskets.
The kelp is harvested late summer from the beaches - never from the open ocean. It is dried and stored in containers for the winter. The following year it is quickly hydrated so that it softens to work with.
Each piece has been sprayed with a clear acrylic to protect it from our moist coastal climate.
