Gavin Then
My name is Gavin Then and my wife and I are recent transplants to the Comox Valley moving here with our two children in 2013 from the beautiful town of Smithers in north central BC. As in Smithers, the Comox valley is filled with the magnificence of mountains, forests, glaciers, lakes and rivers, skiing and everything that is required to be free to explore our own individual creativity. We have made our small property in Royston a place where we feel that we can truly express ourselves artistically. My woodworking all started many years ago when I was probably 6 and I carved myself a little steam locomotive which I still have on my windowsill today. My skills didn’t really take off until I took over the family farm, Lunan Farm, and the old house which was built in the 1930’s and all its outbuildings “needed some work”. After many years of renovating the farm, I felt confident to start my own Reno business, Lunan Renovations and Design.
I brought that business with me to the Island and have spent all of my years here working on homes in historic Cumberland and Courtenay and each house coming with its own stories and requiring its own creative solutions to continue its life with its new owners. Each client would then require some custom cabinets and furniture which I would gladly take on so that I could expand my skills and creative desires. From that I started ‘Out of The Woods Design’ and let myself explore furniture design more fully. Another of my businesses which deals with wood is ‘Evergreen Coffin Company’ where I build fully green and biodegradable coffins suitable for burial or cremation: visit www.evergreencoffins.com.
Thank you for looking at my creations and I would love to chat if you have any custom ideas of your own which I might be able to bring to life for you.
