Lorne Hussey
As an artist, nature remains at the heart of my work, reflecting my love and fascination with the natural world.
I was born and raised on the west coast of Canada. From farming in the Fraser Valley, to living on a vintage 1933 vessel on Quadra Island, to finally settling more than 30 years ago in Qualicum Beach to raise my family; my love of the outdoors as always been a constant.
I'd wanted to study art from an early age, but life has an amazing way of helping you put other priorities in its place. Fast forward many decades, to when I had the privilege of meeting world-renowned woodturner / carver Douglas J. Fisher. To my good fortune, I had the distinct honour of working under his guidance for more than two years prior to his retirement. This incredible opportunity to learn from a master has opened an exciting, new chapter for me as an artist. Working with my hands to create and release an image that tells a story in wood is an exciting process.
How lucky am I?
