Lorne Hussey & Douglas J Fisher
Qualicum Beach artists Lorne Hussey and Douglas J Fisher started a friendship as neighbours. Now, they are collaborating together on artistic endeavors.
About Lorne:
As an artist, nature remains at the heart of my work, reflecting my love and fascination with the natural world. I'd wanted to study art from an early age, but life has an amazing way of helping you put other priorities in its place. Fast forward many decades, to when I had the privilege of meeting world-renowned woodturner / carver Douglas J. Fisher. To my good fortune, I had the distinct honour of working under his guidance for more than two years prior to his retirement. This incredible opportunity to learn from a master has opened an exciting, new chapter for me as an artist. Working with my hands to create and release an image that tells a story in wood is an exciting process. How lucky am I?
About Douglas:
Douglas J. Fisher sold all his woodworking tools, officially retiring from woodturning with aspirations of traveling the world. However, he found that from a computer anywhere in the world, he could still express his artistic vision through collaboration with Lorne. Douglas is inspired by people, architecture, textures, shapes … his ideas come from everything that has gone on throughout his life. From everything he’s seen, music he’s listened to, performances he’s watched, everything. I think we are a culmination of our experiences and we are influenced by everything around us.
