Kiérah Raymond
With 13 years of classical training, Kiérah received one of the highest marks ever given by the Royal Conservatory of Music on her A.R.C.T. exam. However, with an Irish/
Scottish heritage, Kiérah’s true passion is performing Celtic fiddle music. Her prodigious playing ranges from seemingly effortless to ferociously challenging. As the youngest of seven children, I was always surrounded by someone playing music from piano to guitar to trumpet.
My favourite memory was waking up each morning to recordings of Irish or Cape Breton music blaring through the house. Martin Hayes and Leahy were her biggest
inspirations.
Kiérah’s first two albums – “Irish Madness” and “A Fiddle Affair” received nominations by the Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2008 and 2010. Kiérah’s third album – “Stonemason’s Daughter” won a 2013 Canadian Folk Music Award for “Young Performer of the Year”. “Strong Bow”, released in 2017, is a very powerful, high level demonstration of Kierah’s musicianship and mastery of the fiddle. It highlights her unique approach to composition
perfectly blended with the traditions of her heritage.
As a prolific composer and due to numerous requests for her music, Kiérah has written and published B.C.’s first book of all original fiddle tunes – “Kierah’s Collection”.
