Janis Gosbee
Living in both Vancouver and Deep Bay, British Columbia, Janis finds inspiration in nature. After a successful career as an interior designer, she now uses her surroundings to create abstract representational paintings of both the natural and built environments.
Janis urges the observer to let themselves go, to use their imagination as a way of feeling connections to the environment with a free spirit and a wondrous mind. Her work rouses the viewer to get lost in the unique moments she has captured in time and place.
With a fascination of space, colour and light, Janis uses various materials in her creations, ranging from acrylics, gesso, pastels, ink, charcoal and coloured pencils in various self-taught techniques and styles. Mark making and many layers of paint create the final piece.
I believe that we are all connected – everything is linked, and that that association can be expressed visually. The aim of my work is to create a sense of wonder and imaginative context in a busy world…to hold a sense of calm with a bit of whimsy. ~ Janis
