Iris Schurz
I am a photographer living on Vancouver Island, BC. I am a mother and grandmother. I have enjoyed taking photos since I was a young girl. Started off with a little Brownie camera. My obsession continued through the years. I always had some sort of camera with me. It seemed I was the family photographer even though I had no training. In the recent years I have taken numerous courses and continue to learn and challenge myself in many genres of photography.
In my photography journey I have changed my focus. In the past I took mostly photos of
people, family, friends, children and babies documenting life. In recent years I have found
harmony and calm in being in nature. I truly find it adventurous to discover so many behaviors in wildlife and so many colours and moods in the landscape. Photography is more than a hobby to me it is a passion that lets me discover and reflect on so many levels. The peacefulness of the water lapping at the beach. The silence in the forest. The many sounds and songs of nature that I never get tired of hearing.
I have been very honoured to be on the cover many times of our local magazine. I have won a bronze award for my owl shot with the Langley Camera Club in 2018. I have received two honourable mentions from (CAPA) Canadian Association of Photographic Arts in 2022. Just recently placed in the top 10 for a BC Ferries Wildlife contest with my whale shot called the Big Splash!
