Ian Fry
This part of the world is closest to my heart.
Ian was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, studied Illustration & Design at Glasgow School of Art, and graduated in 1978. After freelancing as a book and advertising illustrator in Scotland and later London, he moved to Canada in 1985.
For nearly ten years he worked as an independent illustrator in Vancouver's Gastown. In 1994 I decided to devote more time to painting and rented a studio at Kleewyk, North Vancouver. It was there I created several very large paintings for a Japanese collector.
In 1985, Ian moved to Bowen Island to become a full time fine artist. The island itself was my major source of inspiration until 2009, when a temporary move to Scotland saw Ian painting and selling through three galleries there before returning to BC.
Now, firmly grounded in the Comox Valley, on Vancouver Island, Ian is once again inspired by the landscapes that are closest to his heart and painting them each day.
