Gilbert Smith
Gilbert is a member of the Penelakut First Nation in the Coast Salish region.
He has been carving since about age 14 and learned his skills from, among others, the late Monty Charlie, who taught lots of the young people how to carve in different styles.
Over the years, Gilbert has watched and learned his craft from many fine carvers,
including Glen Edwards, another great teacher.
Our indigenous carvers come together, each offering different teaching so we can all learn something new as we carry on the tradition of carving.
Gilbert is proud to share his culture and heritage with the world.
