Geoff Ross: Indigenous Influences Art
My carvings don’t necessarily represent animals or spirits found in traditional native art, but my art is neither traditional nor native.
When Geoff was two, his parents adopted his younger brother, who is of Interior Salish descent. As they wanted him to be connected with his heritage, Geoff’s family experience included native culture and art. As a Caucasian artist inspired by First Nations art and contemporary design, Geoff’s goal is to present abstract images asking the viewer what they symbolize. Hand carved cedar, with copper and aluminum accents, wall panels.
I hope every individual will see something different in these pieces.
