I was born and raised in New Zealand and attended the Wanganui Glass School. I now live in the Comox Valley, Vancouver Island with my Canadian husband and two Kiwinadian sons. This feels like home to me.
Suzanna has always been intrigued by the idea of glass blowing and had her heart set on this being her career long before she attended school. I started off doing a summer school class and followed this up by two years at the College. I took a long break while having kids, and a year ago, found a quaint little studio in Campbell River where I have been loving working with glass once again.
During the winter months I spend a lot of time art journaling where I paint with acrylic, watercolour, collage, draw, and incorporate text to form mini pages of self expression. Within these I find myself being inspired and carrying ideas over to my main medium of glass.
I try to look outside of the parameters of glass art for influence and often draw from things like fabric, jewels, dragon scales, ocean pools, flowers and other elements to add character to a particular series.
