I’ve died and gone to heaven.
An artist/art teacher residing in Victoria BC, Carol hails from Montreal, Quebec where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the early 70s, topped it off with a Diploma in Art Education and launched a teaching career in the public high schools.
Taking up residence in BC in 1990, Carol devoted more time to making 'things' than to making a living, and to teaching drawing to adults through community centres.
In 2000 she found herself instructing an after school art program at Shawnigan Lake School where studio space and encouraging colleagues were perks of the job. “I’ve died and gone to art heaven” is one of Carol’s favourite quotes.
As she is in the neighbourhood twice a week, she offers her 'Drawing: Yes You Can!' class at the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre. It is specifically directed at people who are not all that sure that they can. Lots of laughter… a few basic skills and learning to 'see' is the formula.
Teaching a sculpture workshop with a focus on process rather than product approach, she encourages students to explore, solve problems and experiment. Currently, Carol is creating magical land and sea creature vessels of clay … octopus, raven and even a chicken!
I love all sorts of art techniques … animal portraits in chalk pastels, pencil drawings and the occasional lino-cut as well as clay, soapstone, and papier maché.
